"Foaly I know what I'm doing completely, Grub will be good entertainment for Chix, because Grub is a whimp."
Holly sees Chix in pain, and as much as she hates him, she hates to see another officer down.
"I know Grub will be great for Chix to make fun of, at least it'll keep him alive ya' know. What bad could it do? Other then if you don't send Grub out you'll blow 100 more LEP dollars out of your BUTT!!!

[glow=green,5,300]For once in his life, Chix is pretty much speechless. In spite of Holly's intervention, he is still in a considerable amount of pain, but he doesn't want to cause his commanding officer unnecessary worry, so he forces a grin and offers a feeble salute.
"No need to worry yourself over me, Captain," he wheezes, his fake grin wobbling out of place, "The Chix man can take a hit...no big deal. That scraggly dung heap didn't hurt you, did he?"
He turns his head away to cough, his eyes drifting closed for a few moments as he lies deathly still, barely breathing. After a moment or two, his eyelids flutter open again and he focuses on the auburn-haired elf staring down at him.
"You're a great captain, Holly," he gasps, a weak smile playing across his pale green features as he reaches up to pat her on the shoulder, "Don't ever change, okay?"
That said, Chix succumbs to exhaustion, closing his eyes and allowing his head to fall to one side. His breathing stabilizes after a few moments, though it is slightly labored and not quite as deep as it should be when healthy sprites are at rest.[/glow]

Grub is out patrolling the eastern section of Police Plaza when Foaly's voice crackles over the intercom in his helmet. He had been half asleep when Foaly contacted him, so it stands to reason when he reacts in a startled manner.
"Mommy!" he yelps reflexively, fumbling the buzz baton he'd been clutching in his hands before he gets a hold of himself and responds in a more mature fashion, "Oh, uh...Corporal Kelp to Ops Booth. Roger that. Requesting status report on the situation."
He waits as Foaly transfers the video feed to his helmet visor, giving him a crystal clear report on the situation he's about to be involved in. Seeing the playback of the troll attack is more than enough to get his knees knocking.
"R-requesting mission instructions," Grub stammers nervously, silently wishing they had called on his brother instead as he waits for Foaly's response.

"Don't wimp out on me this early in the game, Corporal," Foaly mutters, slightly annoyed, "Relax. The troll is out cold. Captain Short needs your help moving Private Verbil to safety. As you probably noticed in the video feed, he's the victim of a troll attack. The faster you get over there, the faster Chix can get on the road to recovery."
Foaly likes Grub well enough, but things would be so much easier if the younger Kelp brother would toughen up. It doesn't take much to see that Trouble and Grub are as different as night and day above ground.

Again, Grub grimaces. He--like many other members of the LEP--is not very fond of the obnoxious Chix Verbil. Still, it is unfair to allow an officer to die simply because of personal issues. Straightening his spine and tightening his jaw, the corporal gives Foaly a solemn nod.
"Roger that, Foaly," he replies in a tone surprisingly leveled with determination, "Tell Captain Short I'm on my way."
A few minutes later, Grub arrives on the scene--just in time to see Chix pass out. He realizes the situation is worse than what he was originally prepared for as he kneels beside Holly and picks up the sprite's wrist, checking his pulse.
"We'd better move him out of here before my broth--uh...Captain Kelp arrives with the Retrieval Squad to move that troll," he suggests, "There's no telling when that beast might wake up...and, pardon me for saying so, but that one smells worse than a dwarf on an all-fiber diet!"
As he speaks, Grub looks a bit nauseous as the wind shifts and the rancid smell of dirty troll wafts in their direction. Foaly is right. The sooner they move Private Verbil to safety, the better.

Holly could swear there was a tear in her left eye, and she could feel Chix's pain. For she knew his pain, because she felt it herself during the Fowl Manor siege, when a troll was crushing her.
"Chix? She says with sadness in her voice. Chix wake up. Your going to be alright. Corpral, you need to let him make fun of you if he wakes up."
Holly chokes back tears, she knew that Grub would say something for there was another tear in her left eye.
"We need to lift him on a strecher. Foaly, we need a strecher here, and also a life support system."
Holly says to Foaly in a teary voice.

Foaly can clearly hear the tearful concern in Holly's tone, but he pretends he doesn't so to spare the captain having to make up some cover story. Instead, he maintains a calm and gentle tone, trying to give Holly confidence.
"There should be a fold-out stretcher inside the first aid kit in the BRET, Holly," he replies in a level tone, "Listen, don't sweat it. Chix is a magnet for near-death experiences. He'll be okay once we get him into professional care. I'm sending up a transportation shuttle to bring him down to the infirmary."
The centaur punches in a few keys to unlock and send out a shuttle on autopilot, directed straight for the south-southwest section, knowing Holly will be able to pilot it back to Haven safely.

Holly is trying so hard to choke back the tears for a fallen comrade, but she just can't. She has never mourns over a fallen officer, until now.
"Thank you Foaly, it's not that I like him like, it's that I hate seeing him like this."
Holly crys, she is trying to deny the fact that she likes Chix in a different way. Try as she might she knows Foaly would find out one day, or maybe today.
"Corpral, pull the strecher out. She says wiping tears from her eyes. I don't want him to die."

Grub doesn't make any comment in regards to Chix making fun of him. What can he say? As far as he can see, the sprite is at death's door. He supposes it's only fair that he allow Chix to pick on him if he even has the strength to do so. Without a word, he scurries off to fetch the fold-out stretcher.
"On three, we lift together," he replies after folding out the stretcher and taking hold of Chix's ankles, "And watch his wings. Can't risk one getting folded the wrong way. It would cut off the circulation."

Holly makes sure that Chix's wings are set up right, and then she pushes him into the medivac shuttle and pulls Grub into the shuttle.
"Get him to the infrimary, on the double."
She sits with her arms around her knees mourning and blaming herself.
"If only I'd been there in time!!!"
She pounds the titanium metal on the shuttle.

"You can't blame yourself, Captain," Grub replies gently as he fixes an oxygen mask over Chix's face, "These things happen. It's all part of being in the LEP--at least...that's what my brother always says."
He checks the security locks on the stretcher and double checks to be sure Chix is strapped in place so he won't go anywhere or cause further damage to himself on the trip back to Haven. He then passes the ignition card to Holly.
"How about you pilot the shuttle back?" he suggests, "After all, you are the best pilot LEP has--Commander Root said so himself. I'll keep an eye on Verbil. And don't be so hard on yourself, Captain. He'll be okay. I'm sure he's just exhausted, that's all."

"Grub has a point, Holly," Foaly's voice comes over the intercom as he has been listening the entire time, "It's all part of the job. You know that. Granted, seeing one of your own wounded is devastating, but you can't beat yourself up over it. Shake it off and focus on the task at hand. There is hope for Chix if you can get him to the infirmary quickly."
He falls silent and for a few moments, all that can be heard from his end of the intercom is the furious tapping of computer keys. Obviously, the centaur is investigating something that has caught his interest.
"Holly, I've been thinking," he pauses a moment, stroking his chin thoughtfully, "Why was that troll there in the first place? Trolls don't usually wander into civilization where they run the risk of being blinded by city lights and whatnot. Something smells fishy here, wouldn't you say?"

Holly pulls herself back together, as she takes the control access card from Grub's quivering hand. Then she slides the access card into it's position slot, and the engine starts up.
"Grub, hold onto the Private, the last thing we need are his bones being crushed."
She focuses her attention back to Foaly.
"That is true. Why would a troll be rampaging through a bright city, I think Opal Koboi released that troll."

"Really? I'm surprised you don't think Artemis Fowl is behind it," Foaly chuckles, "You used to think he was behind every little peculiar thing that happened. As far as Koboi is concerned, she's still heavily guarded. Unless she's got some cronies doing her dirty work, there's no way she could have released the troll."
Just to be sure, Foaly taps a few keys and pulls up Opal Koboi's file on a wall screen. Nothing new shows up in the reports. She's still imprisoned and swearing revenge on every LEP agent affiliated with her arrest.
"I think we're safe in assuming Koboi had nothing to do with it," he confirms, closing out the window, "Her status hasn't changed. Somebody else is trying to be funny with us."

"Good point Foaly, maybe the troll was just stupid enough to just walk into the city."
Holly is still suspicious, thinking she might have to hunt someone down.
"Foaly pull up all criminal profiles and link them to the monitor on this shuttle."
